Catherine A. Martinez, Associate Catherine, better known as Catie, received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in European History and Politics from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1995. She continued her studies at the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in San Francisco, receiving a J.D. in 1999 with a Public Interest Concentration. She worked for Safeway for eight years during college and law school. Immediately after law school, Catie and her husband, Gary, had their first son, Justice, and Catie elected the challenging occupation of stay-at-home mom for the first year of his life. In 2000, she was admitted to the bar and began her legal career at a small workers’ compensation defense firm in San Francisco, where she worked until June of 2003. While there, she defended employers and insurance carriers before the Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board. A second son, Isaac, was added to her family in 2002. In July of 2003, Catie relocated to the Sacramento area and joined
Pursley Law Firm. Her youngest son, Gabriel, was born in 2004. Catie
is a Certified Specialist in Workers’ Compensation and appears before
Boards statewide. She continues to vigorously represent employers
and insurers in the defense of workers’ compensation claims, as well as
Labor Code section 132a claims and Serious and Willful Misconduct claims.
Her interests include spending time with family, serving at her church,
and scrapbooking.
